Have been playing with capturing clouds and sunsets – no Photoshopping, straight from camera.
The above was camera in “sunset” mode – most of those come out too dark, I’m not a fan of the “pre-sets”.
I do well when I have an anchor in the composition (the hummingbird or telephone pole) but hope to make inroads in composition where I don’t (they’re interesting but you feel something missing). Photography class on the “to do” list for someday.
Next weekend is the kick off to various local towns’ Christmas focus. Really folks – that beautiful handcrafted felted wool bag is only $40.00 at The Independent in Murphys. I added a few other shots from her shop. She started on Etsy as the first one selling kits for making toddler clothes with designer fabrics and patterns within, she also creates jewelry (Linda Trent Jewelry). Her local shop comprises work from many artisan crafters in the area. It’s worth a stop.

I am dying to take a photography class. I’m not a fan of the presets on my camera too and I even had to fiddle with the “normal” preset because I felt the colors were not accurate.
I don’t think your sky shots require any photoshopping.
You’ve got it all over me – I haven’t read up the booklet that came with the camera to even know how to fiddle with the presets. Thanks (sky/photoshopping comment).

Beautiful pictures! I’m in a photography club at work and learning a lot. One concept new to me was the rule of thirds, which you’ve used here to great result. And I like the silhouette created in your sunset shot, even if it was a preset.
Thanks Loribee – I picked up the book your club recommended but haven’t cracked the cover – just too busy working. Maybe over the Christmas break. I’ve had art classes so do know not to put my horizon line smack dab in the center (unless it’s deliberate, with reason – as an English major I always say I’m a fan of ee cummings and not obeying the rules, breaking them can be impactful).
Those clouds are gorgeous!! I, too, would like to take some classes. Maybe when I have time this summer. Plus my husband keeps reminding me that I need to learn photoshop. It’s just time that I lack!!!
Thanks Betsy – sounding like there are many of us wanting to learn more about photography! Time is the one thing that keeps me makng deliberate choices – for me Photoshop hasn’t hit the top of the list yet.
Oh I love each picture. They evoke emotions and I especially love the morning misty clouds, even though it makes me feel cold and blue.
It can be fun to watch the fog cover burn off slowly in the morning (on days when it’s misty fog) though the dmapness does go “to the bone” with winter fog.
I ought to explore my camera more. These pictures are breath-taking, every one of them. Oh, I love these Sundays.

I love clouds – could stare at them all day! But that first one with the hummingbird? By far my favorite.
Thanks. I’m pretty sure that hummer is one of only four (from hundres of shots) that I’m going to frame for the hallway. Got the frames – have a friend who uses an online photo printing (for large size) and I’ll have to get the web from her.

What gorgeous captures of the sky and clouds! They definitely do NOT need post processing! Nature, perfect in it’s true form, plus your skill and eye are enviable!

I entered it, although I don’t think the write-up on my blog is what they are looking for, but I’m not changing it 🙂 It’s silly old me, no beautifully written life comparisons to the pie..it simply tastes great!
